Dear Hike & Fly Pilots.

Welcome to 2023 and an exciting year of H&F racing in the UK.  We’re very happy to announce that the X-Lakes will run again this year, on Friday/Saturday, the 16-17th June 2023.  Once again, we are joining forces with the Cumbria Soaring Club, and the event will run alongside their ever popular ‘Lakes Charity Classic’ event.
Before getting into the details, it’s worth mentioning that the admin team has changed a little since last year.  After picking up the mantle from Jocky Sanderson a few years ago, James Allcock has decide to step down.  During this time, James has administered and steered the event into what you experience today.  His work, initially with Rod Welford and Richard Bungay, and latterly with David Drewette and Andy Read, both behind the scenes and behind the microphone on event day, has been extensive and will be sorely missed.  Thank you, James!  We have, however, been joined this year by John Westall and Rob Easthope, both X-Lakes veterans, who have already made an impact, bringing their skills and experience from both inside and outside the environment to good effect.  Together we plan to bring you another excellent event in the stunning environment of the Lake District.

Registration process.
This year’s registration process will be slightly different to that of previous years.  We will be using the AirTribune system for registering competitors for the Academy and Hard Core events which will allow us to streamline the whole process for pilots and enable us to manage all personal data in a secure way.

Registration will open at 18:00 hrs GMT on Saturday 21st January 2023, and all registration details will be available at that time. Registration will close at 12:00 hrs on 1st March after which a ballot will take place if registrations exceed our maximum numbers.
Entry prices and maximum numbers this year will be as follows:
2-day Hard Core event, Friday/Saturday 16/17th June – £80, max 50 pilots
1-day Academy event, Friday 16th June – £50, max 30 pilots.

Location
Once again we will be based at the fantastic Grasmere showground (LA22 9SL) and will share the facilities, catering and entertainment with the LCC event.  Entry to the showground is free for all competitors but non-competing family and friends will be charged £15 per person for weekend entry into the showground.
Camping is available at the showground and tents and moderately sized campervans will be welcome at a cost of £10 per person per night, payable on arrival.  Alternatively, there are plenty of accommodation options in Grasmere itself and the surrounding area.

Full details regarding the Challenge rules, timings, tracking, local facilities and directions to get to the event can all be found now at https://x-lakes.uk/ and on AirTribune when registration opens at:
