2021 – Day Tripper – One Day

Qualified club pilot recently aged 29 and keen to go as far as I can with paragliding. Always wanted to fly and having spent many Summers in Chamonix walking off rock/ mountaineering routes weary and tired looking up to the sky with massive envy it was always a no brainer to one day find myself dangling underneath one. Wish I’d started earlier is my only regret. Also have had other adventures including rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in 2018 and previously was a BASI ski instructor for two winters in Italy and New Zealand. Hope I survive this year’s one day X Lakes!?

Paragliding since 2014 and hiking since - well, a while before that. Now living near Kendal so no excuse not to try combining the two on a day trip in the Lake District. A little disconcerted to be appearing on a page entitled "Athletes" though.

Old bloke who’s been so far round the block that I’ve reached the beginning again and restarted flying after a 25 year break. I wasn’t into serious competition back then, but did get a third place in the LCC.

I qualified as CP last Autumn. I am hoping to get some good flying hours in by June, else I may need to rely on my hiking skills rather than paragliding.

There is nothing like a national lockdown coupled with boredom and red wine, to goad you into thinking running around the Lake District with full weight paragliding gear will be fun. My long suffering wife will testify that only the latter two are needed for me to do something silly. To date, these have mostly been iron distance triathlons with a mountainous flavour, (The Brutal, Triathlon X, etc). I have been flying paragliders for a couple of years and love being in the mountains. A day in June kicking around the lakes with paragliders and some friendly competition sounds ideal to me.

I love flying and climbing, especially in the mountains. Learnt to fly in NZ about 8 years ago. Originally from Ireland and now living in the Kendal area. Not done much comp flying and this will be my first hike and fly race. Looking forward to the event!

Keen to avoid the shackles of overwork and ageing, Pete intends to drag himself around a Lakeland paradise... reliant upon a few years of flying experience and a bit of fell running too many years ago for comfort. This seemed like a top plan...
